Reading record

The Hobbit
J.R.R Tolkien
195~216
The people of Lake - Town Defeated Smaug and started building a new town with the help of the Dwarves.
I think it would have looked magical, arrows firing up at a diamond covered dragon, then falling into the lake in flames.

WW2 family notes

My Mum's Grandad was an engineer in the navy. He was on a ship HMNZS Achilles in the battle of the River Platte (coast of Argentina and Uruguay) on the day my Nana (his daughter) was born!   My Dad's Grandad had shell shock and every now and then he would have a turn which he knew was coming. When he felt it coming he would tell everyone to get out of the room because otherwise he would start thinking people were Nazi's and try and kill them.

Tomorrow when the war began
John Marsden
Finished
Summary/thoughts - It's exactly the same as the first time I read it.

Started reading The Furter Adventures of Sherlock Holmes
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
11 - 18
Summary/thoughts - Very interesting

Chapters 3 - 5 The machine gunners

How does Chas outwit Mr Liddell? He wrote that Boddser Brown had the best collection and that Boddser had a German helmet, some German money and a picture of a German girl. Also he spills ink on his friend to distract him from giving them away. He acts calm when the police come to his house and searches everywhere.
Does Mr Liddell know Chas outwitted him? Yes.
Why does Chas's Dad not ask him if he knows anything about what the police are looking for? Because he is furious with the policemen and doesn't want to help them.
Why are the authorities so concerned about the gun? Because a kid has it with around 2000 shots of live ammo that can smash through a brick wall from a mile away.
Why do the think it's a child that took the gun? Because the cut is really rough, an adult would cut it smoothly.
Why don't the police look in the rabbit hutch? Because it isn't big enough for a machine gun.
What would the have found if they looked there? The bullet magazine.

Guard's Diary

December 1923
Dear Diary,
Hitler doesn’t do much. He just sits there and writes his book and eats occasionally when the meals come. In November, he tried to take control of Germany, but he was arrested and put into prison for five years! Apparently when he was younger he wanted to be an artist. He must have changed a lot since then. The book he is writing is called ‘Mein Kampf` (my struggle). My break is over now, time for more standing still and doing nothing.

Cinquain Poem

War
Terrible, Inhumane
Fighting, Yelling, Exploding
It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it.
Combat
{ Fourth line is a quote from General Douglas MacArthur}

Diamante Poem

War
Frightful, Unpredictable
Unrelenting, Combating, Exploding
Dreadful, Horrible, Calm, Tranquil
Playing, Sleeping, Celebrating
Quiet, Serene
Peace

Personification Poem

The corpses of soldiers sleep forever on the battlefield
They gaze at the battle unfolding before their eyes
The tanks roar past
Crunching and stomping on everything in their path
The bombs jump out of the planes overhead and kamikaze into the tanks
The bullets hurl themselves past
Then the battle is over.

Dorsal Turret -
Dorsal Turret http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/factsheets/factsheet_media.asp?fsID=2515
The top (dorsal) turret, shown with its guns in the stowed, rear-facing position. Previously mounted in the rear portion of the airplane, the turret was moved forward to behind the cockpit starting with the H series and continued with the later J series. This is a redesigned turret (compared to that used in earlier B-25s), taller, with better visibility and a streamlined design. Moving the turret forward helped with weight distribution, plus also brought two more forward-firing guns to bear during strafing attacks, bringing the total to ten plus the cannon.
